Former India fielding coach R Sridhar has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Afghanistan senior men’s team. The 54-year-old will be with the team for the one-off Test against New Zealand as well as the three-match ODI series against South Africa. After this, a long-term contract will be considered.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed former India fielding coach R Sridhar as the assistant coach of the senior men’s team for the upcoming matches. The 54-year-old Sridhar will be with the team for the only Test against New Zealand as well as the three-match ODI series against South Africa. After this, a long-term contract will be considered.
54-year-old Sridhar is a former left-arm spinner. He played for Hyderabad in the Indian domestic circuit during the 1990s. He has ample coaching experience. He started his coaching career in 2001. He was also a part of the Ravi Shastri-led coaching staff till the 2021 T20 World Cup. He served as India’s fielding coach. From 2008 to 2014, the former left-arm spinner also served as the assistant fielding and spin bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Will work with Jonathan Trott
Sridhar was also the assistant coach of the 2014 India Under-19 World Cup team. He has also coached the Kings XI Punjab franchise in the IPL. Sridhar will work with head coach Jonathan Trott in the Afghanistan team. The team will play a one-off Test match against New Zealand in Noida from September 9.
While announcing the appointment of Sridhar as the assistant coach, the Afghanistan Cricket Board said that the Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed India’s Ramakrishnan Sridhar as the assistant coach of the national team for the only Test match against New Zealand and the 3-match ODI series against South Africa.
