BJP has announced its candidates for Rajya Sabha elections. Union Minister George Kurien will be the party’s candidate for Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. Sardar Ravneet Singh Bittu has been made the candidate from Rajasthan. Ravneet Singh Bittu is also a minister in the Modi government. Apart from this, Kiran Chaudhary, who recently left Congress and joined BJP, will also be the Rajya Sabha candidate from Haryana. Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on 3 September.
Talking about BJP candidates, Mission Ranjan Das and former Union Minister Rameshwar Teli have been made candidates from Assam. Manan Kumar Mishra will be the party’s candidate from Bihar. BJP has given its support to former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha from another seat in Bihar. Dhairyasheel Patil has been given ticket from Maharashtra while Mamta Mohanta will be BJP’s candidate from Odisha. Rajiv Bhattacharya will reach Rajya Sabha on BJP ticket from Tripura.
The Election Commission said that elections will be held on September 3 for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats from nine states. Ten Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant after sitting members, including Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, were elected to the Lok Sabha. By-elections will also be held for two Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana and Odisha. In Telangana, recently K. Keshava Rao resigned from the House after leaving Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and joining the Congress, while Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Mamta Mohanta resigned from the Rajya Sabha seat and primary membership of the party.
