Rowing started in Greece for transportation and trade and has come a long way to become a part of the Olympics

Rowing, played in the Olympics, is a game in which an attempt is made to move a boat forward with the help of a rudder tied to it. The player rowing the boat has his back in the direction of the boat’s movement and he crosses the finish line from the back side. There are many competitions in this game as well. In which apart from singles, players also participate in the competition in groups of two, four and eight.

The history of this game is associated with Egypt, Greece and Rome. Where rowing was used for transportation and trade. As a sport, its beginning is believed to have been in England during the 17th and 18th centuries. In rowing, the player has to pull the boat from the back side for 2000 meters. While in this event of eight players, one player plays the role of the main assistant, who is called coxswain and he gives directions in running the entire boat.

At a certain interval, a special thing is tied inside the water to show the direction of the boat. This keeps the track of the players fixed. The team making a mistake is issued a warning at the beginning itself. Whereas the team making a mistake twice in a row is shown the way out of the competition. This race is divided into sculling and sweep oar. Under which two oars are used in sculling events, while in sweep, the player steering the boat uses one oar. Due to the strong performance of Indian players in the Asian Games, medals are expected from them in Paris as well.
