The mayor said the 12-story apartment block caught fire as a result of the strike. In a later statement, he said the death toll from the attack rose to seven when a woman’s body was recovered from the rubble. Regional governor Oleh Sinyhubov said about 20 of the injured were in critical condition. One end of the block was engulfed in black smoke and several upper floors were engulfed in flames. Several cars parked outside were burned to the ground by the fire.
After Ukraine created upper hand in many areas of Russia, now Putin’s army has also started a counterattack. Russia has bombed a residential building and a playground in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Seven people were killed and at least 77 others were injured in this attack. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a 14-year-old girl was also among the dead. The city’s mayor Ihor Terekhov had earlier said on Telegram that a child died in the playground.

Emergency services and rescue volunteers rushed to pull survivors out of the building. The body of one of the victims lay outside on a carpet surrounded by police. Residents of all ages, some covered in blood, sat stunned on benches and walls outside as medics treated their injuries. Kharkiv has been the focus of heavy Russian bombardment throughout the war, although the intensity has declined in recent weeks, possibly related to a shock incursion launched by Ukrainian forces into Russia’s Kursk region.
