Samsung India’s troubles are not reducing. The strike at Samsung Electronics’ manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur, Chennai continues for the 16th day. The company has issued a show cause notice to the striking employees. It states that if they continue the strike, the company will implement its ‘no work no pay’ policy. The employees who went on strike will be laid off. This strike was started by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on September 9. Many information has come to light regarding the protest of Samsung India workers.
According to a Business Standard report, many employees have resumed work after the company issued them show-cause notices. The show-cause notices said that the workers would not be paid for the period of the “illegal strike” as per the ‘no work no pay’ policy. A Samsung official told Business Standard, “The company administration has indicated that all issues can be resolved through dialogue. Many concerted efforts have been made to resolve all differences and get you back to work.”
The report claims that the employees were told that they would be terminated from their jobs if they continued with the strike. The show cause notice said, “If you fail to report for work within four days from the date of receipt of this notice, you are directed to show cause within seven days from the date of receipt of this notice as to why you should not be terminated from service.”
Manufacturing affected due to strike
The strike has affected the production of consumer goods such as televisions, refrigerators and washing machines. “The welfare of our employees is our top priority, and we will continue to reach out to them to address any grievances they may have. At the same time, we have also ensured that our consumers do not face any inconvenience ahead of the festive season,” an unnamed official was quoted as saying by the report.
