Satwik-Chirag’s statement, said- after overcoming the challenge of ‘service variation’, we hope to perform well in the Olympics

After overcoming the ‘service variation’ challenge, star Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are completely focussed on ‘physical and mental conditioning’ to ensure their best performance in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The pair of Satwik (23) and Chirag (26) have been troubled by the many variations in their opponents’ serves such as ‘tumble’, ‘spin’ and ‘wide’, especially the Korean and Indonesian pairs who have used them in recent tournaments. Chirag said they have overcome this new challenge and are confident to deal with it during the Paris Olympics.

Chirag said in an email interview to PTI, “As far as the service variation is concerned, it is a new challenge but it would not be right to consider it completely important.” He said, “There was a time when we struggled to deal with it but we have finally overcome it. We know how to deal with it, we are practicing it and we are confident that we will prove strong in facing it in the Olympics.”

The current world number three pair missed out on reaching the quarterfinals in the last Olympics despite winning two out of three matches in their group. Satwik said, “The experience of playing in the Tokyo Olympics is very important for our preparations for the Paris Olympics. Competing at such a high level has given us important lessons on how to handle pressure, how to stay focused and how to adapt to different playing conditions.
