Seven more children have fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning after consuming midday meal at a private school near Thane city in Maharashtra, taking the number of children hospitalized so far to 45. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.
According to hospital medical officials, these children, aged eight to 11, were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Kalwa town after they complained of dizziness, nausea, headache and stomach pain after lunch on Tuesday.
Initially, 38 children were admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. Seven more children were admitted to the hospital late in the night. Medical in-charge of the hospital, Dr. Anirudh Malgaonkar told PTI that the health of the children is being monitored and if their condition is found to be fine, they will be discharged by Wednesday afternoon.
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi said on Tuesday that the condition of all the children is out of danger and their health is improving. He confirmed that the children had mid-day meal in the private school.
Another medical officer said that the children were served rice and moth curry in their meal. Food and Drug Administration officials have collected samples of the food served to the students.
According to officials, initially five students complained of uneasiness and their number gradually increased. He said, “The school administration called an ambulance and took the students to the hospital.” The family members of the children are also present in the hospital.
