Bengaluru: Union minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday challenged the Karnataka government to approach the Supreme Court instead of seeking Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s permission to prosecute him. Reacting to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s allegations, Kumaraswamy questioned, “What is the need to prosecute me? For how long have you been doing this drama?” Siddaramaiah had said in a press conference on Saturday that on November 23, 2023, the Lokayukta had sent a report to the governor seeking permission to prosecute Kumaraswamy in a 2007 mining case but the permission was not granted.
Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister Kumaraswamy said in the Janthakal mining case, the apex court has held that “no other court shall pass any other order in respect of these cases till the Hon’ble Supreme Court finally gives its final verdict on these cases.” “Who is stopping you from going to the Supreme Court? What is the drama of sending the file to the Governor seeking sanction to prosecute me — to intimidate me and silence me? Is that what you have done?” Kumaraswamy asked. He said the present government had sent a report to the Governor to prosecute him even though it was clear that the Supreme Court would have to be approached for this.
