The festive season has begun. During this time, a large number of online companies and e-commerce websites offer offers which users benefit from. Users get their favorite products at a huge discount. This also helps them save money, but it is possible that they may not be able to save much this time.
In this regard, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Praveen Khandelwal has urged Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to postpone the festive sale. He has requested to postpone the festive season sale of many e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart.
In this regard, Praveen Khandelwal said that online sales have a negative impact on the business of domestic traders. Traders have to suffer huge losses. He said that it is important that small retailers of the country should be promoted. Retail traders do not get protection. In such a situation, it is important that e-commerce rules and policies should be implemented.
In a letter to Piyush Goyal, Praveen Khandelwal also demanded action citing media reports that big brands are colluding with online retailers in violation of ‘anti-trust’ laws. Khandelwal has urged to postpone the upcoming ‘festive season sale’ of Amazon and Flipkart.
They will further harm domestic traders through their continued use of anti-competitive practices, he said. Citing some media reports about the CCI report on major e-commerce companies, the MP said an uneven playing field has been created for domestic companies. “E-commerce giants promote preferential treatment and collusion. These platforms engage in preferential listing and exclusive partnerships with specific sellers and brands, creating an unfair market environment,” he said. “Instead of acting as a level playing field, both Flipkart and Amazon have benefited select sellers, while harming the majority of sellers,” Khandelwal said.
