The National Media Conference organized at the Anand Sarovar campus of Shantivan, the headquarters of Brahma Kumaris Institute at Abu Road, was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan and chief administrator Rajyogini Dadi Ratan Mohini. More than a thousand journalists, editors, bureau chiefs, radio and media associated with print, electronic, radio and web journalism from across the country participated in this national conference organized by the media wing on the topic ‘Role of Media – Spiritual Empowerment for a Healthy and Happy Society’. Jockeys, freelance journalists and media professors have arrived.
At the launch, Union Minister Dr. Murugan said that media has an important contribution in building a developed India. Today, a good news does not go viral as fast as a wrong, fake news goes viral. Journalists should first check the authenticity of the news and only then publish it. Only by promoting good news will a healthy and happy society be created. If a negative atmosphere is being created in the society today, then we need to think about what we are sending into the society. To build a value-oriented society, we have to incorporate values in life.
Journalists should adopt spirituality in personal life –
He said that it is the fundamental right of a journalist to be associated with spirituality. Media persons should adopt spirituality in their personal lives. A journalist can spoil the atmosphere of the country through wrong news, hence the journalist has to understand his responsibility. Media is the most powerful means of giving information, which gives information about sports and culture etc. to the world. This is the fourth pillar of democracy. The media collects information from the Himalayas to the desert.
Brahma Kumaris are working for world peace –
Union Minister Dr. Murugan said that Brahma Kumaris organization is working for world peace. I have come to the headquarters of Brahma Kumaris for the first time. I feel very good and very happy to be here. I met grandmother Ratan Mohini and took her blessings. The divinity and sacred atmosphere here is very pleasant.
Media has deviated from its purpose-
Dr. Man Singh Parmar, former Vice Chancellor of Dr. Kushabhau Thakre Journalism and Mass Communication University, Raipur, said that when the country had not become independent, the media had one goal, one aim, one objective. But when the country became independent, the media was faced with a challenge as to which direction to move forward. But today in the era of commercialism the media has deviated from its purpose. News is being exaggerated in the electronic media which is not good for the society in any way. Social media has definitely given us freedom but it seems that social media might turn into Bhasmasur. It has been years since the Press Council was formed but till date we have not been able to implement a model code of conduct.
Vishnu Prakash Tripathi, Executive Editor of New Delhi Dainik Jagran, said that we are the pillars of the nation and nationalism. We are people of integrity. Democracy needs protection but if media is controlled then it will lose its existence. An Indian journalist must be spiritual. DG Kuldeep Singh, former principal of PIB, Delhi, said that sometimes we journalists have to compromise with our principles. But we have to maintain our values.
Must create obscene content free media –
Former Director General of IIMC, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi said that all of us journalists should campaign to create a society free from obscene material. We have to stop promoting and spreading obscene content. Every person is an ambassador of information. Brahma Kumaris are working for every section of the society. These Brahmakumar brothers and sisters are the embodiment of sacrifice. Newspapers which compete with the better newspapers of the world are being published in our country today. Today there is a need to Indianize the media. The media on which we are working today is the style of western media. We have a tradition of working in the spirit of public welfare. We need to move again towards the tradition of dialogue. We are talking about Jagatguru but someone is ready to become a disciple.
