Sullivan will be in China until Thursday and the trip is aimed at trying to maintain dialogue in a relationship that was broken for more than a year in 2022-23 and was restored only a few months ago. US National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations with China. Relations with China have been challenging for the US during the tenure of President Joe Biden.
After arriving at Beijing airport, Sullivan was received by Yang Tao, head of North America and Pacific affairs in the Chinese Foreign Ministry. US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns was also present on this occasion. Sullivan has been Biden’s most trusted official for unannounced talks with the top foreign official of the Communist Party of China to reduce the tension in relations between America and Beijing.
