Team India Meeting PM Modi: PM Modi asked, why did you taste the soil after winning, know what Rohit Sharma said

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media handles shared a live video of his interaction with the Indian team on Friday, July 5, a day after the T20 World Cup champions’ celebrations. The T20 World Cup-winning Indian team was given a hero’s welcome at both the airport and hotel in Delhi on July 4 before meeting PM Modi and then at Marine Drive and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, with roads jam-packed across the southern part of the city and the stadiums packed too.

PM Modi congratulated the Indian team for winning the T20 World Cup and said that not only in the game, but the team will inspire the whole country by winning as a group with their team spirit, hard work and inside and outside the field. They can give a lot more to the whole country. He said that it is a matter of joy for us that you have filled our country with enthusiasm and celebration and you have fulfilled all the hopes and expectations of our countrymen. Heartiest congratulations to you from my side.

The first of many questions that PM Modi asked on behalf of the Indian team was to captain Rohit Sharma and he was asked about the act of eating the soil of the Barbados pitch, which Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has done many times in Grand Slams. When asked by PM Modi about his thinking behind this, Rohit replied that he wanted to keep something as a souvenir of the place where the Indian team won the World Cup.

Rohit said that the place, the playing surface where we got the victory, I just wanted to save something from it. I wanted to remember one moment from it for the rest of my life and that’s why I tasted it. Because we won after playing on that pitch and everyone had waited for that moment for so long, everyone had tried very hard for it. He said that many times in the past we came very close to achieving it but missed it and finally, with the team effort, we achieved it. Rohit said that the World Cup victory was achieved on the same wicket and it will be very special for him.
