Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of gaining “cheap popularity”. Tejashwi Yadav said that the Chief Minister of Assam deliberately keeps doing acts that harass Muslims in an attempt to gain cheap popularity and become the “Chinese version of Yogi”. He said that the people of BJP have made Muslim brothers a soft target to spread hatred, attract the attention of Modi-Shah and polarize the society. He said that people of all religions, except RSS, have a hand in the independence of the country. Our Muslim brothers have made sacrifices in getting the country freedom and as long as we are here, no one can harm them.
The Assam Assembly will do away with the two-hour break given to Muslim MLAs to offer namaz on Fridays. In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Sarma said that by doing away with the two-hour Jumma break, the Assam Assembly has prioritised productivity and ended another vestige of colonial burden. The practice was started by Muslim League’s Syed Saadulla in 1937. Sarma said, “Thanks to Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and our MLAs for this historic decision.” The official said that the last time this two-hour break was given was on Friday, which was the last day of the autumn session of the assembly.
