Telangana: Election Commission’s big action against K Chandrashekhar Rao, 48-hour ban on campaigning

Former Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has been barred by the Election Commission from campaigning for 48 hours for violating the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections. The Commission issued notice to KCR on a complaint filed by Congress regarding his alleged “derogatory” comments against the party. According to the complaint filed on April 6, KCR allegedly said at an election rally, “A Congressman has resorted to detention to survive. [गर्भनिरोधक] And to sell papad”, and he asked, “Are they the children of dogs to sell Nirodh and papad?”

Furthermore, the party also accused the BRS chief of calling them “petty minded people” and threatening them. A 48-hour ban on former Telangana Chief Minister Rao from campaigning will come into effect from 8 pm on Wednesday night. After Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, Rao is the second leader to be banned for 48 hours from campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The poll panel took the strict action based on a complaint filed by Congress leader G Niranjan, accusing the BRS leader of making “derogatory and objectionable” remarks against the party.

The Election Commission, in a statement, said that without prejudice to any order/notice issued or issued in future to BRS Chairman K Chandrasekhar Rao in the matter relating to MCC violations, he will be transferred to his residence in Sircilla on May 5. Strongly condemns the controversial statement given by him during the press conference. Citing Article 324 of the Constitution, the Commission has barred K Chandrasekhar Rao from any public meeting, public procession, public rallies, shows and interviews, public speech in the media (electronic, print, social media) for 48 hours from 8 pm today. Stopped from giving.
