Thane: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said the state should focus on eight strategic sectors to become a $1,500 billion economy by 2047. Thane will have to play a key role in achieving this target, he said. Addressing the MMR Thane Vikas Sammelan 2024, Shinde said his government was working to ensure that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s economy touches the $300 billion mark by 2030.
He said these eight strategic areas have been suggested by Niti Aayog and a mechanism is in place to achieve these, consisting of monthly reviews, dedicated war rooms, etc. These areas include artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, global competence centres and data centres, etc. The chief minister said projects like Atal Setu, coastal road and eastern freeway will enhance regional connectivity and boost the economy of the region, especially Thane. He said various trials at the Navi Mumbai International Airport will begin by the end of September.
