The chapter of India’s solar revolution will be written in golden letters in the history of the 21st century: Modi

Gandhinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government has tried to focus on every sector and factor for the rapid progress of the country in the first 100 days of its third term. He said this while addressing the fourth edition of the ‘Global Renewable Energy Investor Meeting and Exhibition’ (RE-Invest 2024) in Gandhinagar. He said that not only the countrymen but the whole world feels that India is the best place for the 21st century. The Prime Minister said, “In the first 100 days (of the third term of the Central Government) you can see our priorities, speed and scale. We have tried to focus on every sector and factor necessary for the rapid progress of the country.
Modi said, “India’s diversity, scale, capacity, potential and performance are unique and that is why I say Indian solutions for global application.” He stressed that India is laying the foundation for growth for the next 1,000 years and our focus is not only on reaching the top but also on maintaining this position. He said, “The world is understanding this very well. Not only Indians, today the entire world feels that India is the best bet for the 21st century.”
“For us, green future and net zero emissions are not mere fancy words. These are the needs of the country and we are committed to achieving them. The government is working on developing Ayodhya and 16 other cities as model ‘solar cities’,” he said at Re-Invest 2024. He said 140 crore Indians have resolved to make the country the third largest economy in the world. He said when the history of the 21st century will be written, the chapter of India’s solar revolution will be written in golden letters. Modi said India understands its energy needs to become a developed nation by 2047 and since the country does not have its own oil and gas resources, we have decided to build our future on the strength of solar, wind, nuclear and hydropower.
The Prime Minister said that his Government has taken several major decisions in the field of green energy, including the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme for offshore green energy projects with an outlay of Rs 7,000 crore and approval of over Rs 12,000 crore for 31,000 MW hydropower generation. Highlighting the pace and scale of his Government’s work, the Prime Minister said that a decision was taken to build seven crore houses for the poor, of which four crore were completed in his second term itself. He informed that three crore more houses will be built in the third term of his Government.
Apart from this, 12 industrial cities, eight high-speed road corridor projects will be built and more than 15 semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains made in India will be launched. Modi said that the central government has made a provision of Rs 1,000 billion research fund besides taking several initiatives for electric transport and high-performance bio manufacturing. He said, “India is the first G20 country to fulfill the climate commitments made in Paris nine years before the deadline. We are the only country to achieve this among the G20 countries. We did what developed countries could not do.”
He said that India is working at many levels to achieve the 500 GW renewable energy target. He said that the government provides funds for the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme’ and is helping in installing solar rooftop in every house. He said that every house is going to become an electricity producer with this scheme. The Prime Minister said that 1.3 crore families have registered under this scheme, while 3.25 lakh houses have installed solar plants on the roof (rooftop). He said, “Every family associated with the scheme will make a big contribution in fighting climate change. When the history of the 21st century will be written, the chapter of India’s solar revolution will be written in golden letters.
