The Government of India and Meta are together making a new plan to deal with online scams.

The Government of India is joining hands with Meta to tackle the growing issue of online scams in the country with a new campaign called “Scam Se Bachao” which will create awareness among Indians digitally. This initiative of META is being implemented by key ministries, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) and Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C).
It is important to tackle scams and cyber fraud

The campaign aims to tackle the growing menace of scams and cyber frauds, in line with the government’s commitment to address the rising cases of online scams and enhance cyber security, the PIB note said. During the event this week, the I&B Secretary highlighted that India, with over 900 million internet users, has seen extraordinary digital growth under the Digital India initiative, becoming the global leader in UPI transactions.
Having said that, this growth has also made it an easy and popular target for scammers, with 1.1 million cyber fraud cases reported in 2023 and even more are expected this year. “By leveraging META’s global expertise, the campaign will empower every Indian to protect themselves from cyber threats, ensuring that our digital progress is matched by strong digital security,” he said.

people lack information
The rise of UPI payments and QR code payments has led to a rise in these scams, mainly because people are not aware of how the system works. Gradually, we have seen that banks and other institutions exercise caution while making payments with pop-up messages and more efforts are needed to thwart such cases in the coming years.
