Shefali Verma, who scored a record 205 runs, has described this innings as a precious treasure of her life. Twenty-year-old Shefali completed her double century in just 194 balls and surpassed Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. The Australian player had scored a double century in 248 balls against South Africa earlier this year.

Chennai. Shefali Verma, who scored a record 205 runs in the only Test against South Africa, has described this innings as a precious treasure of her life. Twenty-year-old Shefali completed her double century in just 194 balls and left behind Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. The Australian player had scored a double century in 248 balls against South Africa earlier this year. Shefali also became the second Indian to score a double century in Test cricket after a long gap of almost 22 years after India’s former captain Mithali Raj.

Shefali said in the post-match press conference, “This is a special moment for me and will remain a priceless treasure for life. This is my second favorite innings after the Under-19 World Cup title.” She said, “I could not convert the good start in the ODI against South Africa into a big innings, but today I took my time from the beginning. I believed in my strength and could play this innings with the grace of God. This is the result of my hard work and I am happy to contribute to the team.” Shefali, who scored 96 runs against England three years ago, admitted that she was getting nervous after crossing 90.

She said, “Who can forget getting out on 96 runs. I also remembered it. I was just thinking about scoring those four runs. It felt the same even after reaching close to 200 runs.” Shefali also credited this performance to the batsmen’s camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. She said, “I practiced a lot with both red and white balls in the camp, which helped. All the batsmen were in the camp and we enjoyed it a lot. The credit for this performance goes to that camp.
