With the third and last phase of voting, the voting process in Jammu and Kashmir has ended. The results of Jammu and Kashmir elections will come on October 8. Under the third and final phase, 65.48 percent voting took place till 5 pm on Tuesday. Udhampur district witnessed the highest turnout of 72.91 percent. This was followed by Samba (72.41 percent), Kathua (70.53 percent), Jammu (66.79 percent), Bandipora (63.33 percent), Kupwara (62.76 percent) and Baramulla (55.73 percent). Officials said that voting went on peacefully in all areas and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

Prominent candidates in this phase of elections include Raman Bhalla (RS Pura), Usman Majeed (Bandipora), Nazir Ahmed Khan (Gurez), Taj Mohiuddin (Uri), Basharat Bukhari (Wagoora-Kreeri), Imran Ansari (Pattan), Ghulam Hasan. Mir (Gulmarg), Chaudhary Lal Singh (Basohli), Rajiv Jasrotia (Jasrota), Manohar Lal Sharma (Bilawar), Shyam Lal Sharma and Ajay Kumar Sadhotra (Jammu North). There was 61.38 percent voting in the first phase of elections on September 18 and 57.31 percent voting in the second phase on September 25. In the year 2019, assembly elections were being held for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370.
In the third and last phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, many former ministers and candidates exercised their franchise at various polling stations in Jammu and Samba districts on Tuesday. Many of them said that the remarkable turnout in the election was a victory for democracy over Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Jammu North, Shyamlal Sharma, said after casting his vote here, “Democracy has won in Jammu and Kashmir. People have defeated Pakistan sponsored terrorism.” He said, ”We will form the government and our victory will be a proof of people’s support. People are voting for continuous development in Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior BJP leader and candidate from Nagrota assembly constituency Devendra Singh Rana predicted that the BJP government will come to power in Jammu and Kashmir. He described the developmental initiatives launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as important to garner support from voters. BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Ravindra Raina said, “Democracy is flourishing in Jammu and Kashmir, where people have strongly rejected Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. “People are voting for peace, development, progress and prosperity,” he said. Their vote is for democracy, not terrorism.
