Complaint lodged with police

A lawyer has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks, alleging that they were provocative and aimed at inciting unrest. The complaint, filed by Vineet Jindal, a lawyer practising in the Supreme Court, focuses on a statement made by Banerjee during an event of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, where she allegedly said, “Remember, if Bengal burns, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also burn.” Jindal argued that Banerjee’s statement was provocative, potentially inciting regional hatred and hostility and thus posing a threat to national harmony and public order. He argued that as the Chief Minister, Banerjee’s words carry significant weight, making the alleged comments particularly dangerous.

Mamta gave clarification

Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that she has not threatened junior doctors of government hospitals. These doctors have been on strike for 21 days in protest against the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor of RG Kar Hospital. Banerjee said that some people have accused her of threatening the protesting junior doctors, which is “completely wrong” and is part of a malicious propaganda campaign. She posted on social media ‘X’ and said, “I want to clearly say that I have not said a single word against (medical etc.) students or their protest. I fully support their movement. Their movement is justified. I have never threatened them.
