Tight security arrangements for victory parade of T20 World Champion in Mumbai

Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the roadshow of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team in Mumbai on Thursday evening. A large number of fans are expected to gather to catch a glimpse of the players. A police officer gave this information.

The world champion Indian team, returning to the country on Thursday morning, will take part in a road show in an open bus followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in south Mumbai.

The official said on Wednesday that the Vijay Jhoola will be taken out from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium between 5 pm and 7 pm. He said that a large number of people are expected to gather for the event so the police are taking utmost caution to avoid any untoward incident.

The official said that adequate security arrangements are being made on Marine Drive between Nariman Point and Wankhede Stadium. Earlier, the Indian cricket team returned home from Barbados in a special plane.

The players were given a rousing welcome by fans at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport amid heavy drizzle and heavy security measures were in place to prevent fans from getting close to the players.

The Indian team’s return from Barbados was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl. “The team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11 am,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told PTI.

After this, the team will fly to Mumbai where a ceremony will be held. There will be a roadshow in an open bus from Nariman Point and later we will felicitate the players with the prize money of Rs 125 crore as announced, he said.

On Saturday, the Indian team won the country’s second T20 World Cup title, ending the 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. India had earlier won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
