Let us tell you that Udhampur seat comes under the Lok Sabha seat. Elections are being held in the state for the first time after the removal of Article 370. The Congress party has fielded Sumit Gangotra as its candidate from this seat. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has bet on Pawan Gupta. Earlier in the 2014 assembly elections, Pawan Gupta contested as an independent and won.
Fighting elections in NC-Congress alliance
This time in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Congress and JKNC are contesting on an alliance. Out of the 90 assembly seats in the state, Congress is contesting on 32 seats, while NC has entered the fray on 51 seats. According to the 2011 census, the total population here is 2,02,381.
Let us tell you that the voting percentage in the assembly elections held in the year 2014 was 65 percent. However, no political party was able to achieve absolute majority. The Bharatiya Janata Party had secured 23 percent votes with 25 seats. Whereas the PDP had secured 22 percent votes with 28 seats. In the 2014 elections, the Congress Party contested all the seats alone.
