Surprising the world, Turkey’s President Erdogan did not mention Kashmir while addressing the United Nations General Assembly. This news has created a stir in Pakistan. Apart from Pakistan, Turkey was the only country that had been raising the Kashmir issue in the United Nations General Assembly.

What has been Erdogan’s stand on Kashmir
In 2023, Erdogan called on India and Pakistan to work together for lasting peace in South Asia. Erdogan said that just and lasting peace will be established in Kashmir through dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan. In 2022, Erdogan expressed regret over the issue of peace between India and Pakistan. He further said that such peace should also reach Kashmiris. He said that we regret that strong peace and cooperation between India and Pakistan has still not been established. We hope that a just and lasting peace and stability will come in Kashmir. In 2021, Erdogan called for a solution to the Kashmir conflict through the United Nations mechanism. He also reiterated this in 2020 and 2019.

Left Pakistan to join BRICS
Erdogan wants to include Turkey in the BRICS countries. For this, India’s consent is necessary. The group of BRICS countries includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. There are constant talks of expanding BRICS and India is one of the founding members of this group. There are talks of making BRICS stronger than G-7 and G-20. That is why Turkey now wants to join BRICS. Turkey knows that if India refuses, it will be difficult for it to join BRICS. That is why it has started to please India. There are reports that preparations are being made to remove Turkey from the NATO group. That is why it is looking for its alternative in BRICS, in which three superpowers like Russia, China and India are present.
