PM Modi said that he is looking forward to working with the new UK government to further strengthen the bilateral and strategic ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Britain’s next Prime Minister Keir Starmer on his Labour Party’s historic victory in the general election. He also congratulated outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on his leadership. Starmer’s Labour Party won a landslide majority in Thursday’s parliamentary elections, securing 412 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons and ending 14 years of Conservative rule.

PM Modi said that he is keen to work with the new UK government to further strengthen the bilateral and strategic ties between the two countries. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Keir Starmer on his remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive cooperation to further strengthen the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership in all areas, promoting mutual growth and prosperity.

In another tweet, PM Modi thanked Sunak, Britain’s first Indian-origin Prime Minister, for his efforts during his tenure. Rishi Sunak, thank you for your commendable leadership of the UK and your active contribution to deepening ties between India and the UK during your tenure. Best wishes to you and your family for the future. The Conservative Party led by Sunak suffered its worst electoral defeat in history, attributed to issues such as the cost-of-living crisis, internal turmoil and voters’ dissatisfaction with the party’s performance in previous years.
