The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, while hearing a public interest petition, has sought details of the functioning of the destitute ward of the Civil Hospital and Balrampur Hospital.
The next hearing of this case will be on September 4. The bench has also asked the Chief Medical Superintendents of both the hospitals to file an affidavit within two weeks, stating how many patients have been admitted to these destitute wards since November 2023 and how the government orders of November 21, 2023 and December 6, 2023 issued by the state government regarding the treatment of destitutes are being implemented.
This order was passed by the division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Om Prakash Shukla on the public interest petition of Jyoti Rajput. The petitioner told the court that the said government orders are not being fully followed.
It was said in the petition that the petitioner himself had admitted a mentally ill woman but later it was found out that the said woman had gone somewhere on her own and she was not even stopped by the hospital administration.
Whereas, from the government’s sideIt was told that after the said woman left, information was given to the Hazratganj police station and the said woman was also re-admitted by a person named Lavkush Dwivedi. On this, the court has also sought a reply from the Hazratganj police station.
At the same time, on another PIL, the same division bench has also asked Lucknow-based King George Medical University (KGMU) to make new arrangements for the treatment of destitutes. It was brought to the notice of the High Court that on December 8, 2023, a female patient was also admitted here but she also left on her own will.
On this, the court said that KGMU should also make arrangements in this regard. The High Court has also ordered the Vice Chancellor to file an affidavit in the matter. The next hearing of both the cases will be on September 4.
