Misri said the organisation has been declared as such under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 for being involved in anti-national and subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.

On terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu filing an ‘attempt to murder’ case against the Indian government in the US, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “As we have said before, these are completely unwarranted and baseless allegations. Now that this particular case has been filed, it does not change our view of the underlying situation. I just want to draw your attention to the person behind this particular case, whose history is well known. I also want to underline the fact that the organisation that this individual represents is an illegal organisation.”

The Ministry of External Affairs has taken the matter seriously. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that a high-level committee is already working on the issue. Misri said that the organization has been declared as such under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967 and this has been done due to its involvement in anti-national and subversive activities aimed at disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. Canadian pro-Khalistan separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has filed a lawsuit against the Indian government. The US court has sent summons to the Indian government in this case. According to CBC News, a civil suit has been filed in a US federal district court against the Indian government, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and others.

The Khalistani separatists have claimed damages against Indian officials for the alleged assassination attempt. It has also been said that this alleged assassination attempt was foiled by the US in 2023. The suit also accuses India of involvement in the death of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. It is worth noting that the allegations made by the Advocate General of the pro-Khalistan group Sikh for Justice have not been proven in court.
