At least three people were killed and one person injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sattur in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district. Speaking about the incident, Virudhunagar District Collector said that the injured person is undergoing treatment at the government hospital.

Three people were killed and one injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Saturday. According to Virudhunagar District Collector, the injured person is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

“Three persons killed, one injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sattur in Virudhunagar district. The injured person is undergoing treatment at a government hospital,” Virudhunagar District Collector said, according to ANI. Emergency services rushed to the scene to control the fire and rescue those trapped inside. Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and assess the safety protocols implemented at the factory.

The accident has once again highlighted the need for stringent safety measures in firecracker manufacturing units to prevent such incidents in future. In February 2024, nine people, including five women, were killed and seven others were seriously injured in an accident at a firecracker unit near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar. Earlier on January 24, two people were killed in a separate accident at a firecracker factory in the same district. The victims were identified as P. Kaliraj, 20, and K. Veerakumar, 50. The incident took place at the Thalamuthu fireworks unit in Vachchakkarpatti in Virudhunagar district.
