Shirdi Lok Sabha constituency is an important parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra. Shiv Sena has been in power for 15 consecutive years. In the general elections held in 2024, Bhausaheb Rajaram Wakchaure of Uddhav Thackeray’s faction of Shiv Sena won. This parliamentary constituency came into existence in 2008 after the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission constituted in 2002.
Shirdi Lok Sabha constituency is an important parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra. Shiv Sena has been in power for 15 consecutive years. In the general elections held in 2024, Bhausaheb Rajaram Wakchaure of Uddhav Thackeray’s faction of Shiv Sena won. This parliamentary constituency came into existence in 2008 after the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission constituted in 2002. Voting was held here for the first time in 2009 to elect an MP. 6 assembly constituencies come under this Lok Sabha seat. This area is a part of Ahmednagar district as well as the tehsil headquarters. This place is also known for Sai Baba. There is a huge temple of him here. A large number of devotees come to this temple for darshan.
This Lok Sabha constituency falls entirely under Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. It is formed by combining Akole, Sangamner, Shirdi, Kopargaon, Shrirampur and Nevasa assembly constituencies. Out of which, in the 2019 elections, Congress and NCP were successful in winning two seats each. Along with this, BJP and Shiv Sena also opened their account on one seat each. Akole assembly seat of Shirdi Lok Sabha constituency is also known for Madhukar Kashinath Pichad, one of the most popular leaders of Maharashtra. Who was successful in winning the elections from this assembly constituency for eight consecutive times. From 1980 to 1995, he was successful in reaching the assembly on the ticket of Congress and then till 2009 on the ticket of NCP.
Currently, NCP is ruling here since 1995. Its leader Kiran Lahmate is currently an MLA from Akole seat. Sangamner assembly constituency is also one of the strongest of Congress in the state. This assembly constituency came into existence in 1962 with the formation of Maharashtra state. Since then, in the elections held so far, Congress has lost the election only once in 1985. Currently, the party leader Balasaheb Thorat has reached the assembly eight times in a row from Sangamner assembly constituency. Apart from NCP, all the major political parties have won the Shirdi assembly seat of Shirdi Lok Sabha constituency. Currently, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil is the MLA from this area. MLA Radhakrishna Patil has not lost the election here since 1995. He has reached the assembly first on the ticket of Congress, then Shiv Sena, then again Congress and finally Bharatiya Janata Party.
Voters of Kopargaon assembly seat, which came into existence in 1978, have given a chance to win to all the major parties of Maharashtra. In the last assembly elections held in 2019, Ashutosh Ashokrao Kale of NCP was victorious. Before him, Snehlata Kole of BJP has also represented this area for 5 years. Shrirampur seat of Shirdi Lok Sabha constituency is reserved for Scheduled Caste category. Congress has remained undefeated on this seat since 1995. Currently, party leader Lahu Kanade is raising the voice of the people of this area in the state assembly. The first elections were held in 2009 on Nevasa assembly seat, known as number 221 in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. NCP and Bharatiya Janata Party were successful in winning it in the elections held after that. Last time, Shankarrao Gadakh, leader of Krantikari Shetkari Party, had won.
