We are taking confidence from the tournament, this is a beginning for us: Rashid Khan

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan is saddened by the one-sided T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to South Africa but said it is just the beginning for his side and the tournament has given them the confidence to beat any team.

Afghanistan suffered a nine-wicket defeat after being bowled out for their lowest score of 56 in the first semi-final against South Africa. Rashid said after the match, “It was tough for us as a team. We would have performed better but the conditions did not favor us. This is T20 cricket in which you have to adapt to every situation.”

He said that his team has learned a lot from this tournament. He said, “This is just the beginning for us. We are getting the confidence to beat any team. We have to focus on the process. We have learned a lot from here.”

Rashid said, “We are going to this tournament with confidence. We know that we have the skill but here we learned to play in difficult and pressure situations.” When asked about the areas in which improvement is needed as a team, Rashid said, “Some improvements have to be made. Especially in middle order batting. So far the results have been good but we have to work harder in batting.”

He said, “South Africa bowled brilliantly. We have been successful in the tournament so far due to the good performance of our bowlers. A good start is needed.” This great spinner said, “We were unfortunate that Mujeeb got injured but our fast bowlers and Mohammad Nabi also performed well with the new ball, which made the job of the spinners easier.
