The Congress has expressed its displeasure over an objectionable and inappropriate comment made on the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The party has demanded immediate action against the official responsible for the post. In response to the controversy, a statement has been issued on the X handle of District Magistrate Manish Verma. In his statement, he claimed that some anti-social elements misused his ID card and posted objectionable comments. The DM’s statement further stated that legal action is being taken, an FIR is being registered and the cyber cell is investigating the matter. Later, a copy of the FIR was shared on the X handle.
In fact, on a tweet by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinet, an objectionable comment was made against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi from the official handle of Gautam Buddha Nagar DM. Supriya had shared a video clip of a channel, in which she is seen making a political attack on PM Narendra Modi. Commenting on this, the DM’s handle wrote – Hey, you think about yourself and your Pappu.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X that the X handle of DM of Gautam Buddh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh posted a completely inappropriate and unacceptable comment on the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha today. This is not a new development; over the last ten years, India’s bureaucracy and other non-political officials have become increasingly politicized. There is a lot of effort being made to suppress and debase the civil service – which Sardar Patel once called the steel frame of India. Such cases are the latest examples of that effort. Immediate action must be taken against this officer who has shamelessly violated all rules and norms.
