It is reported that just three weeks after the formation of the interim government, Dhaka has ordered a fresh supply of ammunition for artillery from Pakistan.

Bangladesh has ordered thousands of rounds of ammunition from Pakistan in three tranches. According to reports, the ammunition is to be used in artillery guns. In a significant development after Sheikh Hasina’s departure, the Indian government has learned that Bangladesh is set to receive a large consignment of defence material from Pakistan, which includes 40,000 rounds of ammunition, 2000 quantities of tank ammunition, 40 tonnes of RDX explosives in wax stabilizer, and 2,900 high-intensity projectiles. This marks a significant increase from last year’s order, which included 12,000 rounds of ammunition.

While this is not the first case of Pakistan supplying ammunition to Bangladesh, the current order is much larger than the previous one. As per details, the shipment is scheduled to take place in three phases, starting in the first week of September 2024 and ending by December 2024. Details of the supplementary defence exports to Bangladesh have emerged from a letter from the General Manager Export of Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF). The correspondence, addressed to the managing directors of various POF divisions, including Havelian, Sanjwal and Gadwal, outlines the specifications of the additional defence stores to be exported. The move indicates Bangladesh’s efforts to enhance its defence capabilities and potentially signals a strengthening of ties with Pakistan under the new leadership.
