Sources said that the commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will be in Jharkhand on September 23-24 and in Maharashtra on September 27-28. Last time elections were held simultaneously in Maharashtra and Haryana. However, this time the Election Commission decided to hold elections separately in both the states. Last time assembly elections were held separately in Jharkhand. However, this time sources have indicated that these can be announced along with Maharashtra. The term of Maharashtra Assembly ends on November 26 while the term of Jharkhand ends on January 5.
Elections in Jammu and Kashmir are already underway while Haryana is scheduled to go to polls on October 5. Assembly elections in Delhi are scheduled to be held in February. Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced the dates for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. However, the Election Commission did not announce the dates for the Maharashtra assembly elections. For this, the Election Commission cited several reasons including weather and security requirements for the Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner (CE) Rajiv Kumar said that the Maharashtra elections will be announced later due to the security requirements of Jammu and Kashmir. Kumar further explained that the ongoing monsoon season in Maharashtra has caused a delay in updating the voter list, which is a crucial step in the electoral process. Important cultural and religious events, including Pitru Paksha, Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi, are also currently underway in the state, which has necessitated the postponement of the elections.
