When will the assembly elections be held in Maharashtra? Election Commission responded, also met political parties

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Saturday reviewed the election preparations in Maharashtra along with fellow Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu. During this, Rajiv Kumar also directed the state police officers to speed up the investigation of election crimes registered in the state during the Lok Sabha elections. He said that we have come here to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. We met leaders of national parties and regional parties.

Rajiv Kumar said that we met the stakeholders, DM, Police Commissioner, DGP. We met leaders of total 11 parties including BSP, AAP, CPI(M), Congress, MNS, SP, Shiv Sena (UBT), Shiv Sena. He has asked us to consider festivals like Diwali, Dev Diwali and Chhath Puja before announcing the election dates. When asked about the dates of assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that there are 288 constituencies in Maharashtra out of which ST constituencies are 25 and ST constituencies are 29.

The Election Commissioner said that the tenure of the Maharashtra Assembly is ending on November 26, so the elections will have to be completed before that. The total voters in the states are 9.59 crore, of which males are 4.59 crore and females are 4.64 crore…The number of first-time voters in the age group of 18-19 years is quite encouraging, about 19.48 lakh. The CEC also asked the DEOs to ensure proper signage and guidelines to guide voters where there are multiple polling stations at one location. The Commission also sought the status of FIRs related to electoral crimes in the Lok Sabha elections from the Superintendents of Police and directed them to review all matters related to personnel, EVMs and social media. The term of the Maharashtra Assembly ends on November 26 and elections are expected to be announced sometime next month.
