‘Will maintain 4% reservation for Muslims’, big announcement by BJP’s ally TDP in Andhra Pradesh

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the party will give 4 percent reservation to Muslims in Andhra Pradesh if elected to power in the state. Naidu said TDP has actively worked for Muslim reservation in the state and it is the party’s responsibility to fulfill its promises. He said that we will retain 4 percent reservation for Muslims and provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 every month for the maintenance of mosques in the state.

The former Andhra Pradesh CM has also promised to set up Noor Basha Corporation and allocate Rs 100 crore per year for it. He said that if TDP comes to power in Andhra Pradesh, it will provide pension to persons from minority communities above the age of 50 years. Chandrababu Naidu also promised that the TDP will allot space for Eidgahs and cemeteries in major cities for minorities.

The former CM has also announced a plan to offer financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Muslims going on Haj pilgrimage and Rs 5 lakh in interest-free loans through the Minority Finance Corporation. He also mentioned that Imams and Maulanas will get an honorarium of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, which qualified Imams will be appointed as government Qazis. Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena and TDP along with BJP are NDA allies in the southern state.

BJP’s stance on Muslim reservation

Chandrababu Naidu’s stance on Muslim reservation is completely opposite to BJP’s stance on the issue. Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the BJP will end 4 per cent job reservation for Muslims in Telangana if the saffron party comes back to power at the Center after winning the general elections. He said reservations would instead be given to Other Backward Class (OBC), Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.
