Wimbledon 2024: Bhambri-Olivetti pair reaches second round of Wimbledon

India’s Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti entered the second round of the men’s doubles event here on Thursday while Olympic team members N Sriram Balaji and Luke Johnson crashed out of the Wimbledon Championships. Bhambri and Olivetti defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik and Alexander Shvechenko 6-4 6-4 in 58 minutes.

Now Bhambri and Olivetti will face the pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz of Germany. Balaji and Johnson lost 4-6 5-7 to the fourth seeded pair of Mate Pavic of Serbia and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador in the first round. India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden entered the second round with an easy win over the pair of Robin Haas and Sander Arends.

Bopanna and Ebden defeated their Dutch opponents 7-5, 6-4 in one hour and 11 minutes in a rain-interrupted first round match on Wednesday. Australian Open champions Bopanna and Ebden, second seeds, will face the German pair of Hendrik Jebens and Constantin Frentzen in the second round.

Bopanna and Ebden reached the semi-finals of the third Grand Slam of the season, Wimbledon, last year. Earlier on Wednesday, India’s Sumit Nagal and his Serbian partner Dusan Lajovic lost in the first round against Spain’s Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar. Martinez and Munar won 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and seven minutes.
