A speeding BMW car hit a couple riding a scooter in Worli, Mumbai on Sunday morning around 5:30 am. The woman died in the incident. Police said the speeding BMW was registered in the name of Mihir Shah, son of Rajesh Shah, a senior leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, who is currently absconding.

Police said they have detained the politician and his driver Rajendra Singh Bijawat. Police have registered a case under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, negligent driving and destruction of evidence under the new Indian Penal Code. They have also invoked provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Giving information about the incident, the police said that Mihir Shah had drunk alcohol in a bar in Juhu last night. While returning home, he asked the driver to take him on a long drive and then after a while he insisted on taking the car from the driver and driving it himself. As soon as Mihir took the car in his hands, he hit a scooter. After this, in the chaos that followed, the driver and Mihir fled from the spot with the car.

At 5:30 am, Kaveri Nakhwa and her husband Pradik Nakhwa, residents of Koliwada area of ​​Worli, had gone to Sasoon Dock for fishing. While they were returning home, their two-wheeler was hit from behind by a speeding BMW. The impact was so severe that their bike overturned and both the husband and wife fell on the bonnet of the car. During this time, the husband managed to save himself, but Kaveri Nakhwa’s luck did not favor her and she remained stuck on the bonnet of the car.

The accused Mihir dragged Kaveri Nakhwa for about 100 meters and fled leaving her injured at the spot. The injured woman was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police said that the husband is currently undergoing treatment and investigation into the hit and run case has been started.
