Reply from Pooja Khedkar on UPSC’s petition
The Delhi High Court has sought a response from former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) probationary officer Pooja Khedkar on a petition filed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) seeking initiation of proceedings against her for allegedly making false statements and affidavits in the court. Justice Jyoti Singh issued notice to Khedkar on the UPSC’s plea and gave her three weeks to file her reply. The court fixed the next hearing of the case for November 26. The UPSC argued that on the same day of the order cancelling Khedkar’s candidature on July 31, she was informed about it on her registered email ID.
High Court asks CBI to explain the reason for waterlogging
The Delhi High Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) what was the reason for heavy waterlogging in ‘Old Rajendra Nagar’ on July 27, where three students preparing for the civil services examination drowned in the basement of a coaching centre. The co-owners of the basement – Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh and Sarabjit Singh – had moved the high court last month for bail on the ground that they were only the owners of the basement which was rented out to the coaching centre and, therefore, had no role in the unfortunate incident. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma, while hearing the bail pleas of the co-owners of the basement who are lodged in jail, asked what was the reason (of heavy waterlogging) that day? There was heavy rain in Delhi. Why was there so much waterlogging that day? Was it due to rain or some other reason. The bench reserved the order on the bail pleas.
Patna High Court’s big decision in Gandhi Maidan bomb blast case
The Patna High Court commuted the death sentence of four convicts to 30 years imprisonment in the 2013 serial blasts case. The blasts took place at Gandhi Maidan during the election rally of then Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. A division bench of Justices Ashutosh Kumar and Jitendra Kumar upheld the life imprisonment awarded to two other convicts by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court. In October 2021, the NIA special court had convicted a total of nine people in the case, out of which four were awarded death penalty, two life imprisonment and two 10 years imprisonment and one was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and another to seven years imprisonment while one accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Namaz will continue on the roof of Vyas basement: Court
The Hindu side’s petition demanding the repair of the Vyas basement of the Gyanvapi mosque and a ban on the entry of Namazis on the basement roof was rejected. The court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Hitesh Agarwal of Varanasi, citing the cases pending in the Supreme Court, said that the worship going on in the Vyas basement and the Namaz on the basement roof will continue. This petition was filed on behalf of Nandiji Virajman by Akanksha Tiwari, a member of Lucknow Jan Udghosh Seva Sanstha and others. The Hindu side argued that since the Vyas basement is very old, its pillars are weak.
Kejriwal gets bail, parrot-like taunt to CBI
The Supreme Court has granted bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the CBI case related to the Delhi liquor policy. The court has said that keeping Kejriwal in custody would be like depriving him of his right to liberty. The CBI must definitely distance itself from the concept of a caged parrot. It should show that it is not a caged parrot. Kejriwal was earlier arrested by the ED in a money laundering case related to the excise policy. Later, on June 2, he got bail in this case from the Supreme Court. He was arrested by the CBI from jail in a corruption case. While granting bail in this case, the apex court has imposed the same conditions that were imposed in the ED case.
