New Delhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday claimed that the only policy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir is to “cheat” them and that they will show the door to “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and company” in the upcoming elections. Kharge said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that the youth unemployment rate (PLFS) in Jammu and Kashmir was 28.2 percent in March. He said, “Keeping the youth of Jammu and Kashmir in the dark is the only policy of the BJP.”
Kharge claimed, “Recruitment in various departments is getting delayed for four years due to multiple exam question leaks, bribery and large-scale corruption. 65 per cent of the posts in government departments in Jammu and Kashmir are vacant since 2019.” He said that more than 60,000 government daily wage employees in Jammu and Kashmir have been toiling for more than 15 years and get only Rs 300 per day.
“Despite serving for a long time, they are working on contract basis even in essential departments like power, public health and engineering, which highlights the alarming nature of the employment crisis,” the Congress leader said. He said though the BJP had promised to set up industries in Jammu and Kashmir, there is no major manufacturing unit in the Union Territory. The Congress president said the private sector is limited to providing services only in agriculture, hospitality and health sector.
Kharge said, “Despite the launch of the new industrial policy in 2021, only three per cent investment has been made on the ground. 40 per cent of the projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Package 2015 are still pending.” He said, “On October 1, the youth of Jammu and Kashmir will show Modi and Company the way out!” Elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1 and the results will be declared on October 8.
