Lucknow Super Giants are looking to add Zaheer Khan to their coaching setup after Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian cricket team. It is believed that two other franchises were also interested in including Zaheer, who was recently the head of global development at Mumbai Indians. Prior to this, he was the cricket director of the franchise from 2018-2022.

Lucknow Super Giants have been without a mentor since Gautam Gambhir left late last year. Gambhir, who was part of the support group that helped Kolkata Knight Riders win their third IPL title in 2024, has since become the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel, who was the bowling coach of LSG, has now joined the Indian team in the same role.

Apart from the role of mentor, Lucknow Super Giants want to give Zaheer a bigger role. He can also be involved in talent scouting and player development program during the off-season. Lucknow’s backroom is currently led by Justin Langer. Who has replaced Andy Flower as head coach ahead of IPL 2024, has Lancus Klusener and Adam Voges as his assistants. After securing playoff berths in their first two seasons, the KL Rahul-led side fell short on net run rate to make it to the top four in 2024.
