1984 anti sikh riots charges framed against jagdish tytler murder case to proceed

The CBI had filed a supplementary chargesheet against Tytler in the 1984 case pertaining to the murder of three Sikhs near Gurdwara Pul Bangash and arson at the shrine. The incident took place after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today (August 30) directed framing of charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in Pul Bangash Sikh murder case. The court said that there is sufficient material to frame charges against accused Jagdish Tytler. Charges have been framed under sections 143, 153A, 188, 149 etc. read with 302. CBI had filed a supplementary chargesheet against Tytler. The case is related to the murder of three Sikhs and arson in the religious place near Gurdwara Pul Bangash in 1984. This incident took place after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

A witness had said in the earlier chargesheet that Tytler came out of a white Ambassador car in front of Gurdwara Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984 and incited the mob by saying “Kill the Sikhs, they have killed our mother”. The court ordered framing of charges for several offences including unlawful assembly, rioting, promoting enmity between different groups, house trespass and theft. The court has listed the matter for September 13 for formally framing of charges.
