Kolkata Trainee Doctor Murder. Clothes and shoes recovered from the accused’s house, police waiting for the final post-mortem report

Kolkata Police is waiting for the final postmortem report to reach a conclusion in the murder of a woman doctor, whose body was found at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital here, a senior police officer said. The preliminary postmortem report said the woman doctor was sexually assaulted and murdered. “We are waiting for the final postmortem report to reach a conclusion in the case,” the police officer told PTI.
Police said the preliminary post-mortem report suggested that she was murdered after being sexually assaulted and ruled out the possibility of suicide. “She was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth and had injuries on her face. The victim’s private parts were also bleeding. She also had injuries on her stomach, left leg… neck, right hand, finger and… lips,” the report said. Meanwhile, another police officer said circumstantial evidence indicated that the arrested accused first killed the woman doctor and then raped her.

The officer told PTI, “There is evidence that the doctor was sleeping alone in the seminar hall of the hospital when the accused attacked her. The woman tried to escape but was strangled to death. There is also a possibility that the accused may have raped her after committing the murder.” The police have also recovered the clothes and shoes worn by the accused during the crime. When asked if anyone else was involved in the crime along with the arrested accused, the officer said, “There is no evidence of this yet.” The officer said, “After committing the crime, the accused went home and washed his clothes. During the search of his house, his shoes were also found which had blood stains on them.”
The body of the woman doctor was found inside the ‘seminar hall’ of the RG Kar Government Hospital in north Kolkata on Friday. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vowed to seek death penalty for the culprit. The arrested person is an outsider who had easy access to various departments of the hospital. He has been booked under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the Indian Justice Code. He was produced before a Kolkata court which remanded him to police custody till August 23. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Police on Sunday deployed a large contingent at the hospital.
