The Supreme Court on Wednesday rapped the Haryana government for not following its earlier order amid rising levels of air pollution. Also warned that if the order is not followed then he will file a contempt case against the Chief Secretary of Haryana. The Supreme Court asked why the state was reluctant to prosecute people who burn stubble and let them off by imposing nominal fines. Supreme Court told Haryana that ISRO is telling you where the fire was taking place and you say that you did not find anything.

It directs the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to take punitive action against the state officials. The Supreme Court ordered that the Chief Secretary of Haryana appear in person next Wednesday and explain why no strict action was taken against the violators and government officials.
The apex court said that CAQM has become a toothless tiger. The top court had earlier rapped the CAQM over its failure to curb air pollution in Delhi due to stubble burning in neighboring states and said it needed to be more proactive in its approach.
