What did Mother Dairy say about the price hike?

In a statement, Mother Dairy said, “It is increasing the prices of its fluid milk by Rs 2 per litre across all operating markets from June 03, 2024. The increase in consumer price is primarily to compensate producers for the increased production cost, which has been increasing for over a year.” Mother Dairy, which currently sells 35 lakh litres of fresh milk per day in Delhi-NCR, said it had last revised its fluid milk prices in February 2023.

Mother Dairy said, “Despite paying higher prices for milk procurement in the last few months, consumer prices have been maintained. Further, heat stress has been unprecedented across the country and is likely to further impact milk production.” The company emphasised that it allocates about 75-80 per cent of its milk sales revenue to procurement. This helps sustain dairy farming and ensure the availability of quality milk.

“The increase in farm prices is being passed on to consumers only partially, with an effective revision of 3-4 per cent, protecting the interests of both milk producers and consumers,” Mother Dairy said. Amul hikes milk prices by Rs 2 per litre Late Sunday night, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, raised milk prices by about Rs 2 per litre across the country from Monday. The Rs 2 per litre hike means a 3-4 per cent increase in MRP which is much lower than the average food inflation. GCMMF said it has not increased prices of fresh pouch milk in key markets since February 2023.
