Bangladeshi citizen who came to India illegally arrested from Roorkee, Uttarakhand

Police arrested a Bangladeshi national who had illegally entered Roorkee city from Haridwar district without documents, officials said. They said Rahimul (50), a resident of Khulna district of Bangladesh, was arrested late Saturday night while he was roaming around the military area in a suspicious condition.

Police officials said that people saw a suspicious person at a shop in Dhandhera area of ​​Roorkee Civil Line. Suspicious of his speech, people informed the police after which he was brought to the police station for questioning.

Since the arrested person was a Bengali speaker, the police took the help of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee security officer Debashish Bhowmik to interrogate him.

When Bhowmik spoke to the man in Bangla, he found out that he had secretly come to India from Bangladesh through the Bainapur border three months ago to earn money. Rahimul said that after this he was roaming around in India.

He told that after hearing about the Urs fair starting in Kaliyar, he came to Roorkee by train and was roaming around in Dhandhera to make arrangements for accommodation. When the police asked him for his identity card, passport and visa required to enter India, he could not show any of these documents.

Police have registered a case against Rahimul under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, Passport Act for illegally entering India without passport and visa and staying there illegally. Alert police and intelligence agencies have started investigation in the case in view of the recent political turmoil in Bangladesh.
