Chief of Defense Staff of the Indian Armed Forces Anil Chauhan has said that the unrest in Bangladesh is worrying. The CDS said that tension is already prevailing on the borders with other countries in view of the change of power in Bangladesh. Speaking at a conference on military ammunition, CDS Anil Chauhan said that India has its own share of security challenges, we have the proxy war waged by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, the sudden escalation of which is now being seen in the Pir Panjal range.

He said the long-standing border dispute with China is not over yet. These are the two major security challenges we face, with instability in our neighbourhood being another cause of concern for us. For a large country like India, with its abundance of security problems, it cannot afford to fight wars and depend on foreign imports for livelihood, especially in an environment where global security and governance are in a volatile state, the CDS said. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is set to be sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday, as he made a strong appeal to all to maintain calm and avoid all forms of violence to make the best use of our new victory.

As authorities struggled to bring the law and order situation under control, Army Chief Gen. Wakar-uz-Zaman on Wednesday announced that the interim government would be sworn in on Thursday at around 8 pm. He said the advisory council could have up to 15 members. Gen. Zaman further said the armed forces would provide all possible assistance to 84-year-old Yunus after Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country following violent anti-government protests led by the Students Against Discrimination movement.
