Coming out of student movement, Pratap Sarnaik decided the path to Assembly, ED had tightened its noose in money laundering case.

Pratap Sarnaik, the current MLA from Ovala-Majiwada seat of Thane district of Maharashtra, is known for actively participating in social service work in the area. Sarnaik started his politics as a student leader. He has remained invincible for 15 consecutive years from Ovala-Majiwada seat, which came into existence after the delimitation in Maharashtra in 2009. During the war within Shiv Sena in 2022, he left Uddhav Thackeray and joined the Shinde faction. Although Sarnaik started his politics with NCP.
Pratap Sarnaik is a politician from Thane, Maharashtra, India. He was born in Wardha, Maharashtra in 1964 to Indirabai and Baburao Sarnaik in a middle-class family. His father Shri Baburao Sarnaik had moved to Mumbai. Pratap Sarnaik received his education at Pendharkar College, Dombivali. His passion for social service made him join the student movement during his college days. Pratap Sarnaik started his political career with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He left NCP in November 2008 and joined Shiv Sena.
He won the general election as a Shiv Sena candidate from Ovala-Majiwada assembly constituency with 52,373 votes. His 2 sons, Vihang and Purvesh are prominent members of the Yuva Sena. Younger son Purvesh Sarnaik is the secretary of Yuva Sena and is actively involved in its activities and campaigns. His wife Mrs. Parisha Sarnaik is also a local councilor representing Ward 29 in Thane Municipal Corporation. Sanskriti Yuva Pratishthan, under the chairmanship of Pratap Sarnaik, has been organizing Dahi Handi in Vartak Nagar, Thane for the last several years. Various Dahi Handi teams came from Mumbai-Thane to compete for a handi worth Rs 25 lakh in August 2011.

Real Estate: As Chairman of Vihang Group of Companies, Pratap Sarnaik has been involved in several real estate projects in Thane city since 1989. Some of the residential and commercial projects executed are Vihang Shantivan, Vihang Garden, Srishti Complex, Vihang Residency, Vihang Tower, Vihang Vihar, Vihang Park.
Hospitality: Pratap Sarnaik owns Hotel Vihangs Inn, a 3-star business hotel in Thane. The group also owns Vihangs Palm Club, which has swimming pool, health club, Jacuzzi and squash facilities.
ED screws
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action against a Shiv Sena MLA in a money laundering case related to National Spot Exchange Limited in 2022. Then ED had attached property worth Rs 11.35 crore of MLA Pratap Sarnaik. The federal probe agency had issued a temporary order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for attachment of two flats and a portion of land owned by Sarnaik in Thane, adjacent to Mumbai.
The Enforcement Directorate had initiated investigation against NSEL directors, key officials and 25 defaulters after taking cognizance of a 2013 FIR by the Economic Offenses Wing of Mumbai Police. According to the Enforcement Directorate, the accused had hatched a criminal conspiracy to defraud investors, which included instigating trading on the NSEL platform, creating forged documents such as fake warehouse receipts, falsifying accounts, etc.
