Daughter of IAS officer couple committed suicide in Mumbai, suicide note found

The 27-year-old daughter of a Maharashtra cadre IAS officer couple allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 10th floor of a building near Mantralaya in south Mumbai in the early hours of Monday, police said.

Police said that Lipi Rastogi, who was pursuing LLB from Sonipat in Haryana, jumped from a building near the state secretariat at around 4 am. At that time everyone was sleeping in the residential complex of IAS officers located near the ministry.

Police said the building guard found Lipi unconscious on a motorcycle parked near the premises and informed the family, following which she was rushed to GT Hospital.

Officials said that despite immediate medical attention, his life could not be saved. The officer said that a suicide note was recovered from the spot, which allegedly said that no one should be blamed for his death.

Officials said a case of unnatural death has been registered at the Cuffe Parade police station. Police said Lipi was under a lot of pressure regarding her academic performance, due to which she was stressed.

Lipi’s father Vikas Rastogi is the Principal Secretary in the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department, while mother Radhika Rastogi is also a senior IAS officer and is serving in the state government.

Earlier, in 2017, the 18-year-old son of Maharashtra cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar committed suicide by jumping from a high-rise building in Mumbai.
