Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday listed new safety measures for bus operations in Delhi and said that fee allocation for all drivers will now be Aadhaar-based. Addressing a press conference, Gahlot said that in the last two years, they have driven 2000 buses. More importantly, we have to see how our buses are performing on the road. There has been a lot of emphasis on lane driving recently. There have also been a few accidents in the past. Some issues have come to our notice, such as fatigue caused by some drivers handling multiple workloads. Delhi government buses run at least 200 km per day.

There is also a provision that the driver should be given rest after 8 hours. The first step we have taken is that the duty allocation for all drivers will now be Aadhaar-based. It will be linked to Aadhaar so that no one can take double shifts. Software is being developed for this right now. If a driver completes a shift, his name will be automatically removed from the next shift. Further Kailash Gehlot said that biometric face recognition system is being installed in the depot. He said that if we still get a complaint then the depot manager will also be held responsible and action will be taken against him.

He also informed that drivers who cannot drive efficiently and safely will be sacked. A common pool is being created. Currently, if a driver has an accident and is blacklisted from one depot, they can work in another depot as we do not have a unified database.
