The Election Commission on Tuesday said that the battery of EVM is like a calculator and it has three-level security. The Election Commission’s clarification came after Congress said the election results could be affected due to varying battery levels of EVMs at different polling stations in Haryana. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has rejected claims of tampering with electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Kumar said that it is impossible to manipulate EVMs like pagers and said that we are waiting for the next big allegation from Congress. Kumar said the issue regarding EVM batteries is new, but EVMs have three-tier security including the battery. He further said that the public has already expressed confidence in the voting process by participating in large numbers. This reaction comes after opposition parties, especially Congress, once again raised concerns over EVM tampering.
Rajiv Kumar said that it is absolutely safe and strong. Look at the last 15-20 elections. It is giving results on different results. It may not be that it is wrong, only that the results may not be to your liking. Responding to a question about the allegations and complaints made by the Congress regarding EVMs, CEC Rajeev Kumar said, “Nowadays people also ask if someone can blow up a pager, but can’t they blow up an EVM too? Can? Pager and EVM are different and have no relation.”

Regarding complaints from the Congress party alleging “battery problems” in EVMs in the Haryana elections, the CEC said, “We will respond to all 20 complaints on EVMs individually, fact-by-fact.” The CEC also defended EVMs on the allegations made by opposition political parties and said, “It is absolutely safe and robust. Look at the last 15-20 elections. It is giving different results. It cannot be that EVMs are wrong.” Yes, only the results are not to your liking.
