Male: Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday said it would be an honour for him to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony and his visit to India on this historic occasion will reflect that bilateral relations are moving in a positive direction. Muizzu’s remarks came after he accepted an invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Modi will take oath of office on Sunday and this will be his third consecutive term as Prime Minister. Muizzu’s office said in a statement that President Muizzu has accepted the invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi. Indian High Commissioner to Maldives Munu Mahawar handed over the invitation letter to him during a courtesy visit to the President’s Office.

Earlier on Wednesday, Muizzu had congratulated Modi and expressed his desire to work with the Indian Prime Minister to advance bilateral relations. Muizzu said on the social media platform X, “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on their third consecutive success in the 2024 general elections.
